Meditation
(Dhyan)
What is Meditation?
Meditation is a medium that unlocks your ability to adopt a greater perspective to view the world around you and your purpose in it. Just like how water decreases the speed at which light travels, meditation slows down your internal thoughts and feelings, allowing you to gain control over what you think about.
In specific, meditation (dhyaan) is the ultimate tool in a satsangi’s toolbox to increase spiritual prowess. There is no other pursuit that will get you closer to God, and in tune with your true identity as an Anadimukt.
In the Western world, it is considered a practice to enter a state of altered consciousness that reaps many physiological benefits, among which include decreased heart rate and blood pressure, an increase in memory, and better quality of sleep. Science may prove these observations to be true, but in terms of Karan Philosophy, these are just secondary characteristics.
Why Should I Meditate?
A tool can have many uses that are not restricted to its original purpose. For example, a construction worker may use a wrench to screw and unscrew a bolt in a piece of furniture, but they may also use its flat side to put a nail into a piece of wood if they do not have a hammer. In a similar sense, those with the goal of attaining the secondary benefits of meditation, like control over their anxiousness or worries, are rightfully using the tool as a means to achieve their goal. However, as a Karan satsangi, our goal should be very clear. The solace found in the act of meditation fosters a unique kind of connection with Lord Swaminarayan. Through repeated practice, we will be able to detach ourselves from our tasks and activities, and gain the clarity that every single action that is performed, is done by Maharaj.
This separation from the ownership of our actions allows us to forever remain humble. All our successes will be attributed to Lord Swaminarayan, and this mindset will prevent you from ever walking astray from the path that Maharaj has defined for us.
